Planting & Care

When is the best time to plant a hedge?
For bare root hedging plants, plant between November and March. Pot-grown hedges can be planted year-round.
How do I plant a hedge?
Prepare the soil by removing weeds and adding compost. Dig a trench, space plants according to species (see product pages), and water well after planting.
Tip: For a denser hedge, use a double staggered row.
How far apart should I plant hedging plants?
Spacing depends on the species: typically 30–60cm apart. Check the product page for specific recommendations.
How do I care for my new hedge?
Water regularly for the first 1–2 years, especially in dry spells. Prune annually to encourage bushy growth. Mulch to suppress weeds.

Receiving & Unboxing

How will my plants be delivered?
Plants are sent in robust, plant-safe packaging to ensure they arrive in perfect condition.
What should I do when my plants arrive?
Unpack immediately. Pot-grown plants can be kept in their pots for a few days; bare root plants should be planted as soon as possible or ‘heeled in’ temporarily.
What if I can’t plant straight away?
Keep pot-grown plants watered and sheltered. For bare root, keep roots moist and store in a cool, dry place for up to two days, or heel in.

Troubleshooting & Advice

Why are my hedge leaves turning yellow?
Yellowing can be caused by overwatering, underwatering, poor drainage, or nutrient deficiency. Check soil moisture and consider a balanced fertiliser.
What should I do about pests or diseases?
Inspect regularly for pests. Remove affected leaves and use appropriate treatments if necessary. Contact us for advice.
How do I control weeds around my hedge?
Mulch around the base and hand-weed regularly. Avoid using chemical weedkillers near young plants.
